Found this and thought it was funny.

Microsoft celebrates the new year with a mass epic fail.
Quote:
Microsoft is just squeezing in under the wire to claim the rights to “weirdest tech story of the year.”Last night at approximately 2 AM, every 30GB Zune model on the planet crashed... The Zunes reset, powered up, then froze on the loading bar screen, and no conventional method of resetting them appears to work.

This is brought to you courtesy of Microsoft, who has been selling a video game console with a nearly 100% fail rate for three years. The Zune situation is all the more disasterous however seeing as all of them failed at the exact same moment, which people have taken to calling 2K9.

30.12.08 - The Day of the Triffids (2009)
IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1332653/

Good old Beeb; lets hope its not some Dr. Who fluffy American export pap!
Quote:
BBC Drama and BBC One present a modern, gripping adaptation of the best selling post-apocalyptic novel The Day Of The Triffids.

The two-part 90-minute drama will be produced by Power to transmit in 2009.

Originally written in 1951 by the English science fiction author John Wyndham, The Day Of The Triffids will be adapted by Patrick Harbinson (ER, Law & Order), who will create a fast paced, futuristic and electrifying take on John Wyndham's most penetrating novel, creating an unmissable television event.

The year is 2011 and man has finally depleted the world's fossil fuel supply. In the hunt for alternative sources they uncover the ominous Triffid, a crop now cultivated for its fuel that seems to have a life of its own.

When spectators gather globally for a much anticipated solar storm – billions of awestruck victims are left blinded in its wake.

As the few sighted survivors watch as society falls to lawlessness, the Triffids find their way out of captivity.

Roaming the planet with a fatal sting and a retributive taste for human flesh, the Triffids begin to breed rapidly.

Now, Dr Bill Masen must lead the brave in their epic battle against the Triffids' reign of terror, while avoiding the maniacal opportunism of other sighted survivors, to prevent these being the last days of mankind.

The executive producers are Power's Justin Bodle and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, for the BBC.

Produced by Stephen Smallwood (Murphy's Law) and directed by Nick Copus (EastEnders, The Summit), The Day Of The Triffids will frighteningly resurrect the creatures in glorious HD.

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, comments: "The Day Of The Triffids is a classic title. I'm excited that its powerful story is being remade for television. We're hoping to attract a legion of fans as well as give nightmares to a new generation of viewers."

Justin Bodle, Executive Producer, Power comments: "This is an enormously exciting project for us. Armed with a fantastic contemporary and highly topical script, based on Wyndham's cult classic, we look forward to delivering a major drama event for a 21st century audience."

The BBC has a rich history of adapting The Day Of The Triffids. The novel was adapted for radio in 1953, 1957 and 1968.

The BBC television production followed in 1981 starring John Duttine as Bill Masen, which was repeated on BBC Four in 2006 and 2007.

In 2001 writer Lance Dann adapted the series in two hour-long episodes for the BBC World Service.

The Day Of The Triffids is the latest new drama commission for 2009, following in the footsteps of Peter Bowker's Occupation and the first screen adaptation of Andrea Levy's novel Small Island for BBC One, and Joe Penhall's Moses Jones for BBC Two.

Commissioned by Jane Tranter, Controller, BBC Fiction, The Day Of The Triffids will film in London and the South East later this year. Casting will be announced at a later date.

30.12.08 - Plan 9 From Outer Space Strikes Back!
http://images.dead-donkey.com/images/plan9issue01vs0.jpg

Bluewater Productions along with Legend Films is developing the comic book sequel to the cult film “Plan 9 From Outer Space”.
Quote:
Bluewater describes the oversized one-shot, fifty years after the alien invasion unleashed the unspeakable horror of Plan 9, a corrupt team of government scientists reactivates the zombie horde in order to lure the aliens back to Earth! Their sinister plan: steal the most hideous weapon known to intergalactic intelligence. Only conspiracy theorist, Eugene, and his mother, a former professional wrestler, can expose the shadowy agenda of the government as they fight off the growing zombie horde. This time, a new alien force invades Earth: the revolutionary followers of the martyred Eros. Eugene and his mother join forces with the last remaining heroes of a corrupt government. Together, they must thwart Plan 9 once again, with all life in the universe hanging in the balance.

Plan 9 From Outer Space was directed by 50’s pulp auteur Edward D. Wood Jr. Plan 9 is infamously known as the worst films of all time but don’t let that fool you, it’s may be a “bad” film it's also a high entertaining one. Plan 9 has spawned several remakes and sequels. Some of them include, Plan 10 From Outer Space, Shakespeare's Plan 12 From Outer Space, Plan 19 From Outer Space, Plan 69 From Outer Space, Brain Robbers from Outer Space, Plan 9 (in production) and Plan 9 From Outer Space - 30 Years Later.

This oversized issue titled “Plan 9 From Outer Space …Strikes Again” is scheduled for a March 2009 release.

28.12.08 - Resident Evil 4 Movie: Dogshit writer attached
The dog shit writer that is Paul W[rites?] S[hit?] Anderson, is back on the tied down victim and having his way again.

We'll probably have ninja robot, zombie clones or something 'mega-l33t'. Of course, rest asssured, the writing will once again be top notch.

My kingdom for someone with an an ounce of talent that can remake this franchise... yes remake, you heard me. Studio execs take note... take a shit failed movie and make it better. Or radically change it to play on an idea. Here the play on an idea could be "don't make it crap" Wink
Quote:
RESIDENT EVIL 4: Director Paul WS Anderson told IGN that the RESIDENT EVIL franchise is set for another sequel. "I'm writing a script right now. The script side is happening. It's going to be difficult what's happening when until the whole SAG [strike] thing is resolved. But that's something I'm working on right now. Everyone at [game developer] Capcom has had their input into the idea and they're all very excited. I don't want to tell you what it is but it's very exciting."

He added, "Once again we're doing it completely with the blessing of the videogame company. We got a lot of flack [on the sequels] for, 'Why isn't the movie set in the mansion just exactly like the very first videogame?' That's just not progression for me. As the RESIDENT EVIL videogames themselves have developed in leaps and bounds -- it's like when we did the last movie people were like, RESIDENT EVIL doesn't take place in the desert. What the f*ck is this?' Well, where does RESIDENT EVIL take place? Does it take place in Raccoon City exclusively? Well, I don't think so because the game has been in Antarctica, in Raccoon City, now it's in Africa. We're doing it very much in conjunction with the developers of the videogame to give the audience something fresh but something that fits within the world of the videogame."

Meanwhile what about his long-awaited adaptation of the CASTLEVANIA video game? "We still want to make the movie, but I can't say we're going into production in January or anything like that. It's a project that everybody likes. I love the videogame. I think the script is really strong" he says.

He added "Everyone is really enthusiastic about it, but we're still in the process of deciding when the movie gets shot. Not many movies can afford to take the hit of putting the cast and crew on hiatus for months while the strikes gets resolved. So I think in terms of anything we're developing there won't be any sort of priority until the SAG strike is resolved." Anderson also stated that Rogue Pictures is no longer involved with CASTLEVANIA but director Sylvain White is still attached. (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

28.12.08 - Rosemary's Baby Remake Cancelled!
Rejoice! Rejoice!

Maybe that money and effort is better spent on something unique and creative? Or maybe there's a bigger classic that can be pillaged and raped? Crying or Very sad
Quote:
ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE BIRDS remakes: It seem like the project is dead. Here's what producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form had to say. "We went down that road, and we even talked to the best writers in town, and it feels like it might not be do-able," they told Collider in a recent interview. "We couldn’t come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was so we’re now not going to be doing that film."

About their remake of Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS; "That’s not a movie that we’re just going to step up and just go have birds attacking people and trying to throw that into the box office." Fuller explained further, "If we can’t make that movie unique or add something to it, I don’t think we’re going to make it."

17.12.08 - They Live! Remake
oh dear, oh dear...
Quote:
"They Live" is finding life again.

John Carpenter's cult 1988 film is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins.

Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and Carpenter will serve as executive producers.

The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses that let him see aliens walking among us and controlling humanity. The man races against the clock to find a way to stop them.

The movie is known for a fight scene that lasts 5 1/2 minutes and for the line, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

No writer is on board.

Gordon, an entrepreneur and music impresario who worked with Alice Cooper and Blondie, holds the rights, having financed the film as part of a multipicture deal with Carpenter that also included "Prince of Darkness" and "Village of the Damned." Universal distributed the film as part of an output deal Gordon constructed.

Strike, whose credits include "Bring It On" and "Children of Men," had success in the remake arena with 2004's update of "Dawn of the Dead." Strike is also working on a remake of Carpenter's "The Thing."

09.12.08 - Alien 5 without Alien
This kind of crazy gibberish ended up with that crap Alien 4, Whedon pirate vechicle... weird as cheese!
Quote:
Sigourney Weaver talked with MTV News the other day and the actress was candid about a sequel to ALIEN. A fifth film with the original classic's director Ridley Scott involved isn't as out of the question as previously rumored. "There’s definitely unchartered territory for Ripley. Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He’s as much responsible for who she is as I am" says Weaver.

There's a catch though - Ellen Ripley may show up, but the HR Giger-designed xenomorphs may not. Her interest in the creature has obviously waned, the actress wondering if "there’s unchartered territory for a creature who’s become somewhat debased by this computer generated thing. I haven’t seen [ALIEN VS. PREDATOR] but I just think if you overexpose the creature, that’s a mistake." Then she dropped the quote that will have fans intrigued - "We’d have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien]. (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

Regulars of fileheaven.org may have noticed the site has been gone for a few days now and may have started to worry.

Apparantly, one of the admins has sold the domain name and database as part of a gambling debt (you may have seen the poker thread in their smalltalk section that has had a lot of racist posts removed after he announced he was tens of thousands of euros in debt).

Unfortunately, I have been unable to contact him or the new owner of the site (and database). I'll post more news on the forum as it occurs:

30.11.08 - Wicked Wood (2009)
"Director Krist Rufty and makeup FX artist Hank Carlson, who previously teamed on PSYCHO HOLOCAUST, gave us the word on their new indie chiller WICKED WOOD. The duo teamed on the screenplay for this project, with Carlson also serving as a co-producer and taking an onscreen role as well."
Quote:

Ian becomes fascinated with a carved wooden figure called Splinter (pictured), and though odd shop owner Mr. Hands insists he’s not for sale, Ian sneaks back later and takes the totem, leaving a wad of bills behind. But there’s a greater cost to be paid once Ian and Heather return home, and Splinter comes to evil, murderous life. “The movie was originally called SPLINTER,” Rufty tells us, “but then we read about the recent movie of the same name that’s getting all these rave reviews and changed the title instantly.

27.11.08 - X-Files 3? Writer-Producer wants more Files
Seems to have been rather hit and miss with the last title. Largely criticised for being overly long and not recapturing the 'better days', another sequel may give opportunity for them to concentrate on the horror and ignore the pandering to the series / arc thread ends.

The movie would be another venture into the worryingly unfocused main ark of the series, namely the alien colonisation of earth... something that throughout the series is set to take place in 2012
Quote:
On December 2nd Fox Home Entertainment will be releasing The X-Files: I Want to Believe on both DVD and Blu-ray. To help promote the release we chatted with writer-producer Frank Spotnitz who reveals his plans for another X-FILES, if 20th Century Fox were to ever give the go to another sequel. Beyond the break you can read all about his thoughts on the box office and what his plans are for the future.

Frank Spotnitz explains how they were pretty disappointed with the box officie numbers when X-FILES hit theaters this past July.

"We were all a bit disappointed, we had some indication that we were in for a rough time when THE DARK KNIGHT started to become the phenomenon that it is, and breaking records. THE DARK KNIGHT is a history making film at the box office, and we came out with our little dark film a week after. It was disappointing to be sure. But the film made something like 20 million domestically and close to 50 million overseas. That is very telling about what is happening in the domestic marketplace."

Even though the film didn't do all too well in theaters, Spotnitz explains that another sequel may very well happen.

"I think there very well could be more in the future," he reveals to Bloody-Disgusting. "The studio has not indicated another one yet, but there certainly is an audience for it. I think what happened this past summer was a function of bad luck and bad timing with the release. These movies cost a lot of money, not just to make but to market them as well. When the studio looks at the sales of the DVD that’s when they will really decide to see if its worth risking. There is still a lot of love with 20th Century Fox, as well as with the fans."

If a sequel were to happen, Spotnitz explains that he'd like the story to revolve around "Alien Colonization".

"If we were to do one more movie, I think it pretty obviously would have to deal with Alien Colonization." He continues, "In the series we say its coming in 2012, I honestly think that that is the movie that the fans are most eager to see. Hat would be the one I would want to make. For me I think its pretty integral to the series to make tell that story. With I WANT TO BELIEVE, we were un-teathered by the TV show, we could tell any story we want. If you are a fan of the show, you know that about 80% of the stories do NOT have anything to do with aliens; they were stand alone scary stories. This movie was more about the relationship between Mulder and Scully, and not so much about the X-File."

Spotnitz talked a bit about whether or not David Duchovny, Gillian Anderso would return.

"It was one of the best experiences that we all had with the X-FILES. When we did the TV show it was hard work and crazy deadlines, and what was nice this time coming back years after the fact, was the sense of appreciation for each other and the characters. It was really a joy in many ways, as difficult as it was to deal with the cold. Both David and Gillian have gone on to do very different work since leaving the X-FILES, but I think Mulder and Scully will always hold a special place in their hearts. If another one does not happen, we are all pretty proud of what we have done and content with this film".

So what's next?

"The X-FILES is really so many different genres, it’s never been just one type of story. It’s sci-fi, its suspense fiction, it’s horror, it’s romance, it’s comedy, it’s murder mystery. For me its what I love about the show. If it were up to me I think that X-FILES could go on forever if there was an audience for it. Right now I have a couple of TV projects that I cant talk about yet, but hopefully you will be seeing something from me in 2009. One of them definetly has a science fiction component, and the other is more thriller. Horror for me has so many subgenres; Its SAW and FRIDAY THE 13th and THE EXORCIST. If I found a thought provoking horror story I would be all over it! We did some truly horrific and grotesque episodes with the X Files, It takes a lot to scare me at this point, my reaction is to laugh. It’s like I am delighted the more horrifying it is."

X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE arrives on DVD and Blu-ray December 2nd.

27.11.08 - Buffy movie?
Small fry rumour mill perhaps, but interesting rumour nether-the-less.

Angel, at least plotwise would make a lot more sense, since that series ended in the middle of the apocalypse; whilst buffy had finished with the destruction of sunnydale.

We'll see...
Quote:
Our good friends over at Moviehole.net discovered the following in the Herald-Sun Newspaper:

"The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role."

23.11.08 - World War Z: The Movie

WORLD WAR Z: Marc Forster is moving from action spy territory to an apocalypse of the undead. The QUANTUM OF SOLACE director is set to helm WOLRD WAR Z, the film adaptation of Max Brooks' best-selling and politically charged novel about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies reports Variety.

The book is a collection of first person accounts of various survivors from around the globe a decade after a zombie pandemic first emerged from the Three Gorges Dam area in China in the 2010s and proceeded to decimate the globe. The accounts involve not just some diverse stories of battles for survival, but the religious, geo-political, and environmental implications that came with the plague. CHANGELING scribe and BABYLON 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski is writing the screenplay, and Brad Pitt's Plan B is producing.

23.11.08 - Tremors... remake????
Oh dear, lord... just read this one! Lets hope we get a real sequel and not a remake Surprised No point treading that ground again when the first was a classic Smile
Quote:
We’ve heard from friends on the inside that a fifth Tremors movie is being prepped by Universal Pictures. This one will shift locations to Australia, which should mean at least one or two cool scenes in which the graboids swallow a Kangaroo or a family of Koalas. They’re calling it Tremors: The Thunder From Down Under. Odds are it’ll end up direct-to-dvd, but with Hollywood’s recent proclivity for rebooting everything in sight, don’t rule out the possibility of an attempt to relaunch the thing as a viable, theatrical horror franchise.
